“Around 2,800 billionaires with combined assets of currently around 15 trillion US dollars now have an unmistakable dominant position. Their interests in profit and power dominate the world. The fact that another 8.2 billion people still need to be provided with adequate work, housing, clothing, education, culture, healthcare and food is increasingly being overlooked. Planet Earth has become too small to deliver the desired returns for the now unimaginably gigantic assets of the ultra-rich,” state the Board of Trustees and Executive Board in this year’s ‘Political Declaration’ at the spring meeting of the ethecon Foundation Ethics & Economics.
Since the foundation was established in 2004, the members of the responsible bodies of the international ethecon Foundation have traditionally used their spring meeting to address the public with a “Political Declaration” on current controversial issues in world affairs.
On the occasion of the spring meeting of the ethecon Foundation Ethics & Economics on March 23, 2025, the Executive Board and Board of Trustees will publish the joint declaration:
And now? Mass misery, environmental ruin, (nuclear) world war threat
“The entire planet and the future of humanity are at stake,” says Marius Dornemann, Managing Director of ethecon. “Authoritarian governance, aggression and repression are increasingly being used to realize ever-increasing profits and to secure and expand shares in markets and raw materials. Armament and war are on the agenda and nuclear war is looming. We must unite our power to put a stop to this. This requires a strong peace movement and a strong ethecon foundation! Capitalism belongs on the garbage dump of history, that is our goal”.
The founders, trustees and board members of ethecon are united by their commitment to fighting environmental destruction, oppression and exploitation. They denounce unbounded corporate power and the profit logic of the market as causes.
At their meeting, the curators and board members also discussed the recipients of this year’s two International ethecon Awards 2025, which will be announced on the International Day of Peace on September 21, 2025.
