London. - The humanitarian organisations PLAN, CARE and ActionAid from the United Kingdom have published new resources on prevention of child marriage and violence against women and girls.
Plan UK has launched a new report: "Preventing Child Marriage in the Commonwealth: the Role of Education." The report discusses how education stakeholders could do more to prevent child marriage. It also includes new statistical information about the scale of the problem across the Commonwealth.
CARE International released the report: "TO PROTECT HER HONOUR" Child Marriage in emergencies – the fatal confusion between protecting girls and sexual violence. This report is the first in the Gender and Protection in Humanitarian Contexts: Critical Issues Series. It is designed for humanitarian workers, policy-makers and donors to: (1) highlight promising practices and/or gaps in programming; and (2) critically analyse work in the field of gender and protection in humanitarian contexts. The paper examines the issue of child marriage in the Syrian context, and what can be learnt from CARE´s experiences there.
ActionAid UK has published the report: "FEARLESS: Standing with women and girls to end violence", urging the UK and the international community to champion the anticipated target on eliminating all forms of violence against women and girls in the forthcoming Sustainable Development Goals by ensuring adequate financing, accountability, and the full participation of women’s organisations to ensure its implementation. Supporting this finding, ActionAid’s new survey of frontline women’s rights activists found that they feel increasingly under threat, with nearly two thirds reporting a deterioration in their safety and security in the last two years.
