Based on the long-time research cooperation in the context of the EU pro
ject “NOPOOR – Enhancing Knowledge for Renewed Policies against Poverty” an
d with support of the BMWFW (the Austrian Ministry for Science, Research an
d Economy), OIKODROM – The Vienna Institute for Urban Sustainability is org
anizing a conference in the Palais Ferstl in Vienna, on January 18, 2016.The follow-up of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) is not only th
rough its denotation focusing on sustainability. The debate about sustainab
ility is made global and becomes the foundation for future development goal
s. The debate about the newly formulated Sustainable Development Goals (SDG
s) is providing a basis to rethink various aspects of global development st
rategies in terms of their contribution to sustainability.
The main ob
jective of the conference is to bring together different stakeholders in or
der to initiate a critical exchange of knowledge and experience between sci
ence, politics, research and civil society. Both the panel and audience sho
uld be as inter-generational, inter-cultural and international as possible.
Regarding the SDGs, there will be five impulse talks about developmen
t-related topics from a scientific perspective. A “Brainstorming Session” w
ill follow in order to facilitate discussion of specific topics at eight ta
bles (see programme) and to develop precise summarizing statements. The obj
ective of the table discussions is to gain new trans- and interdisciplinary
views on the specific topics. At each table will be a “host” who is introd
ucing the topic as an expert, as well as a moderator who is leading the con
versation and presenting the end results afterwards.
The whole event i
s professionally moderated by Dr. Heidi Dumreicher.
The basis for the
composition of participants (panel and audience) is drawn from a stakeholde
r analysis of the development aid in Austria, which was created in 2013 by
OIKODROM in the context of nopoor.
