Bapska. - Der täglich von hunderten Flüchtlingen genutzte Grenzübergang bei Bapska an der serbisch-kroatischen Grenze ist zu einem Schlammpfad geworden. Regentage und sinkende Temperaturen machen den Flüchtlingen Fußwege und Wartezeiten jetzt noch schwerer. Da immer mehr Familien mit Kindern auf der Balkanroute kommen, hat die Kinderhilfsorganisation World Vision am Donnerstag ihre mobilen Helfer-Teams in Serbien verstärkt und zur Unterstützung von Winterhilfen in den Transitländern wie auch im Nahen Osten aufgerufen.

Berlin. - Als völlig unzureichend hat Oxfam die Unterstützung der internationalen Gemeinschaft für Syrienflüchtlinge innerhalb und außerhalb Syriens kritisiert. In dem Bericht "Solidarity with Syrians", der am Mittwoch veröffentlicht wurde, untersucht die Entwicklungs- und Nothilfeorganisation, wie stark sich die reichen und mächtigen Staaten bei den Finanzhilfen und Aufnahmeplätzen für besonders schutzbedürftige Flüchtlinge ("Resettlement") einbringen und ob sie ernsthaft Verantwortung dafür übernehmen, das Blutvergießen in Syrien zu beenden.

Bangui. - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is alarmed by the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic (CAR), following days of violence. The ICRC said on Wednesday that aid workers must be given access to help those in need and the civilian population and infrastructure, especially medical personnel and facilities, should not be targeted.

Göttingen. - Die Gesellschaft für bedrohte Völker (GfbV) hat am Dienstag vor einer Hungerkatastrophe in Papua-Neuguinea gewarnt. Dringend benötigten bis zu 1,8 Millionen Papua-Ureinwohner humanitäre Hilfe, nachdem Dürre und Frost ihre Felder zerstört haben, berichtete die Menschenrechtsorganisation in Göttingen.

Damascus. - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said on Wednesday the civilian population in the city of Aleppo is undergoing enormous suffering because of deliberate cuts to water and electricity supplies. Around two million people live in the city but many, on both sides of the front lines, are having severe difficulty in accessing water. "Vital services for the people, such as the water supply, must be kept away from the politics of the Syrian conflict," said the head of the ICRC delegation in Syria, Marianne Gasser.

Geneva. - Governments and civil society must do more to document the fate and whereabouts of people who disappear in conflicts or other circumstances and give stronger support to the families left behind, the International Committee of the Red Cross has said. "Whether someone has disappeared during war, or migration or a disaster, the suffering of the families remains," said Marianne Pecassou, who heads the ICRC’s team working on the missing.
