Berlin. - Seit Januar 2014 sind in der Provinz Aleppo mehr als 3000 Zivilisten durch Fassbomben der syrischen Luftwaffe getötet worden. Mindestens 600 Zivilisten starben durch Angriffe mit Mörsern und improvisierten Raketen durch bewaffnete Oppositionsgruppen. Das belegt der heute erschienene Amnesty-Bericht "Death everywhere': War crimes and human rights abuses in Aleppo". Der syrische Präsident Assad bestreitet bis heute, dass die Luftwaffe jemals Fassbomben eingesetzt hat.

Khartoum. - General and presidential elections are scheduled for April 13-16 in Sudan. In the lead up to the vote-casting opposition parties and western governments have criticized the elections as undemocratic due to the fact that large areas of the nation remain in open war, and most viable opposition parties have been banned.

Wien. - Die Lage im Jemen wird zusehends kritischer. Die Kämpfe zwischen den Huthi-Rebellen und der von Saudi Arabien angeführten Koalition im Lande weiten sich aus, zahlreiche Menschen wurden schon getötet. Der Bürgerkrieg im Jemen lässt auch die Situation für die im Lande anwesenden Salesianer Don Boscos immer schwieriger werden.

Sana’a / Geneva – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is alarmed by the dire humanitarian situation in Yemen and calls for an immediate humanitarian pause. All air, land and sea routes must be opened without delay for at least 24 hours to enable help to reach people cut off after more than a week of intense air strikes and fierce ground fighting nationwide.

Geneva. - Two brothers working for the local branch of the Yemen Red Crescent Society were shot dead today in the southern port city of Aden while evacuating wounded people to a waiting ambulance. Disaster-management coordinator Khaled Ahmed Bahuzaim and relief volunteer Mohammed Ahmed Bahuzaim were both bearing the red crescent emblem, which should have ensured their protection. The death of the two men follows the killing of another Yemen Red Crescent volunteer worker in Al-Dhale’ province three days ago.

Bamako. - The government of Mali and the Food and Agriculture Organization have launched the implementation phase of a $5 million project aimed at restoring the livelihoods of households affected by the armed conflicts and climate change in the northern part of the country. The move was announced by Mali's Minister for Rural Development, Bokary Treta, and FAO -Director-General José Graziano da Silva during an official visit.
