Berlin: "AfroFuturism - African Science Fiction Shorts" with Jean-Pierre Bekolo and Peggy Piesche in Attendance
Wednesday, 16. December 2015, 20:00
Hits : 1478

Curated and moderated by Peggy Piesche with filmmaker Jean-Pierre Bekolo in attendance, you are cordially invited to an afrofuturistic evening. In the first part, we will screen four selected science-fiction short films, followed by a discussion with Peggy Piesche and Jean-Pierre Bekolo. This will be followed by the screening of the afrofuturistic classic "Les Saignantes - The Bloodettes".

The cultural theory and artistic "Afrofuturism" movement which was founded by Sun Ra and others uses the sci-fi genre to promote and imagine decidedly Black perspectives on history, the present and the future. "Africa has a image problem" says cult-filmaker Jean-Pierre Bekolo. "I do not want to always be explaining what happened in the past, but I want to inspire those who are creating the future!"

An „afrofuturistic“ Short Film Evening with Peggy Piesche and Jean-Pierre Bekolo.

Organised by AfricAvenir, with the friendly support by Aktion Afrika of the German Federal Foreign Ministry, Brot für die Welt, Katholischer Fonds.
